Key Historical Events
The Age of Splendor
Long ago, before recorded history, the old gods ruled the hearts of all beings. This was a time of simplicity, prosperity and divine presence. Shrines and temples spread across the continent.
The earliest humans that lived during this time were called The First People. They lived humble lives within the earth, constantly traveling. They worshipped the gods they found manifested in scattered temples.
The Great Fragmentation
Over eons, the forces of nature carved Valaron into fragments. Landmasses drifted apart on the cosmic sea. New lands were created. New beginnings became possible. But as geography changed, unified worship became impossible.
An ancient event split the skies with brilliant light. New civilizations appeared suddenly. Theories suggest this may have been the serpent blinking, creating new worlds and new peoples. Or it may have been something else entirely.
It's generally agreed by scholars that this event was caused simply by the natural evolution of the world.
The Great War: Arvendor vs. Ombric
Thousands of years ago, the Arvendor fought the Ombric. The Arvendor are suggested to be descendants of divine beings - proud, radiant, and convinced of their own righteousness. The Ombric, on the other hand, were said to be monsters from the underworld. That's the official version, at least.
In truth, the war wasn't nearly that simple.
The Ombric didn't just appear out of nowhere. Ancient records suggest they were once Arvendor themselves - a people exiled to the depths long ago. Over countless generations, they adapted to the darkness. Their bodies changed. Their minds hardened. Their resentment grew. By the time they returned, they weren't the same.
When the Ombric finally rose from the underworld, they did so in fury. They tore across the land with terrifying strength, and the Arvendor met them with divine fire. Cities burned. Mountains cracked. Entire bloodlines vanished. Civilians, warriors, elders were all lost.
The fiercest battle took place in the crypts beneath The Citadel. Thousands died there. But their deaths served a grim purpose. The Arvendor used the slaughter to power the Runemark of Eternity, the magical seal that fuels the Citadel to this day by using the souls of the dead.
After the war, the Arvendor won. They sealed the Ombric deep underground with ancient wards and declared the world safe once again. Then they buried the truth along with the dead.
Official histories paint the Ombric as pure evil. But the few surviving records tell another story - one of betrayal, manipulation, and a plan that spans millennia.
Some believe the Arvendor engineered the fall of the Ombric, banishing them by design. Generations of hatred would ensure war, and when that war came, the Arvendor used it to justify the mass sacrifice that kept their Runemark of Eternity alive.
Now, the Ombric are sealed away once more - not destroyed, merely contained. The Arvendor wait in silence, knowing resentment will grow again. And when the next war erupts, they will awaken to feed upon it once more… to reignite the Runemark of Eternity.
Even today, uncovering these truths is dangerous. Arvendor who dig too deeply into the war's history tend to disappear.
The Ombric never forgot. Their hatred still simmers below the surface. And somewhere, deep beneath the world, they wait.
Except… it's always been Arvendor's plan all along. From the moment the Arvendor discovered the Citadel to this very day, everything has been orchestrated. The Ombric believe they are cursed to be monsters, but that belief was planted - carefully, deliberately - by the Arvendor themselves. Their rage, their suffering, their endless wars all feed the Runemark of Eternity, keeping the Citadel alive.
The Arvendor's greatest fear is that the Ombric will discover the truth. That their hatred is manufactured, their rebellion engineered, their pain harvested.
With the meteoric rise of Astaroth and Ravenna, whispers are spreading through the lower circles of the Ombric, and the Arvendorian Council is growing nervous. Only the highest elite know the full story - most Arvendorians have no idea. They think the Citadel runs on divine light. But it runs on blood and lies.
The Dark Chapter of Eldoria
An Eldorian emperor attempted genocide of an entire people. This is shameful history that Eldoria prefers to forget. Then came the Great Fire of Eldoria.
The Great Fire of Eldoria
Over the millennia, as Eldoria’s influence grew, its people sought to preserve knowledge about the world from their own perspective - one not shaped by the Arvendor’s version of events. Though the two civilizations were close allies, even the Eldorians admitted that The Arvendor Archives were often biased and carefully curated.
The knowledge within these records told of Eldoria’s darkest chapter, their attempt at genocide.
A massive fire once swept through the city, destroying countless priceless documents in the Eldorian Archives. Many believe this fire was no accident, but a deliberate act meant to wipe away a past they could not face.
