Construction (Houses)
A house is your personal space in the world. You build it in a specific location and fill it with components that provide passive bonuses to your character. Some components boost your stats, others give you experience boosts, and certain special upgrades let you invite other players to stay with you.
The Construction skill is how you create and manage everything about your house. Unlike other gathering skills, construction works a bit differently. You don't just passively collect materials. Instead, you're actively building structures that provide ongoing benefits.
Getting Started
To get started, head to the Construction skill interface and build a Foundation. You'll need to choose a location first. Your house is permanently tied to this location, so think about where you spend most of your time. Once your Foundation is complete, you have a house.
INFO
Your house exists at a specific location. You need to be at that location to use it and get its bonuses. However, certain upgrades can change this, like the Remote Conduit, which lets you access your house from anywhere in the world.
INFO
It costs 25,000 gold to build a Foundation. It also takes 6 hours to complete.
How It Works
Construction works like other gathering skills, but with some unique twists. First, it progresses more slowly than skills like Woodcutting or Mining. This makes sense because you're building permanent structures that provide long-term benefits.
The good news is that as your Construction level increases, you get faster at building. Higher levels unlock access to better and more powerful components. You'll also spend less time constructing each piece.
Building a component requires two things: materials and gold. The materials come from other skills or the market. Gold is your in-game currency. Stronger components cost more of both, so you'll be investing significantly as you improve your house.
When you start building a component, it goes into "in progress" status. During this time, you can't use it. Once the timer finishes, the component activates and starts giving you its bonuses.
Components
Think of components as the individual upgrades that make up your house. Some are structural and form the foundation of what your house is. Others add enhancements like stat boosts or experience gains. Some components have practical purposes, like letting you invite guests.
Each component has the potential to do something specific. One might give you more attack power. Another might increase how fast you gain experience in a particular skill. Some provide magic find bonuses. You get the component's description when you look at it, so you'll always know what you're building before you commit resources to it.
Your house starts with a fixed number of available slots. Each slot holds one component. As you expand your house, you can buy more slots with gold and materials, up to a maximum limit.
Maintenance
Your house components don't stay in perfect condition forever. Over time, active components slowly degrade. This is normal and expected.
When a component's condition drops below a certain threshold (usually around 80% condition), it can be repaired. Repairs don't cost as much as building the component originally, but you'll need to spend materials and gold. The more degraded a component is, the longer the repair takes. Think of it like this: if something is just slightly damaged, a quick fix gets it back in shape. But if you've neglected it for months, the repair takes much longer.
TIP
Don't let your components get too damaged. Repairs become more expensive the longer you wait. Check in on your house regularly and fix things before they fall apart completely.
INFO
While a component is being repaired or has fully decayed, you cannot access its bonuses. This applies to you and your guests. If your house has a component in repair, guests cannot access that component's benefits either. Make sure to keep your most important components in good shape so your house stays functional for everyone.
Guests
Guest quarters let other characters benefit from your house without building their own. Instead of everyone investing time and gold into houses separately, guests can access your house bonuses. This is perfect for alt characters that belong to the same account, or for helping out friends and other players.
To host guests, you need to build Guest Quarters I, which gives you one guest slot. Guest Quarters II provides two slots, and Guest Quarters III provides three.
Guest quarters are separate components, so upgrading means replacing the old tier with the new one, not stacking them. Your guests can be anyone: alt characters from your own account, friends, guildmates, or completely unrelated players. It's entirely up to you who you invite.
To invite someone, search for their character by name and send an invitation. They'll see it in their invitation list and can accept, decline, or ignore it. Once accepted, they become an active guest and gain access to all your house bonuses. You can see both active guests and pending invitations in your house interface, and you can remove someone anytime if you want to free up a slot.
Guests get the full benefit of whatever bonuses your house provides. If you have experience boosts, they get them too. If your house grants idle time extensions, they access those as well. This is a generous way to help others progress faster without them needing their own house.
INFO
Guest houses are the most expensive components due to the value of the benefits they provide. As you upgrade your guest quarters, the required gold and materials will increase substantially.
TIP
Want this room to help pay for your house? Try charging your guests a small fee to cover the cost of their stay, or even turn a profit.
DANGER
Characters that cannot access the trade system, such as Cursed and Banished classes, cannot be guests in houses,
Bonuses
The components you build provide bonuses, but the reach of those bonuses depends on your setup.
By default, component bonuses only apply when you're at the same location as your house. So if your house is in Bluebell Hollow and you travel to Eldoria, you won't get the bonuses anymore.
The Remote Conduit is a special, powerful component that changes this. When you have an active Remote Conduit, your house's bonuses apply everywhere. You can be on the other side of the world and still get all the benefits. This is a major upgrade and makes having a house much more valuable for your daily activities.
Access
You can use your house's bonuses when you're at its location. If you don't have a Remote Conduit, you need to physically be there.
With a Remote Conduit, you access your house's benefits from anywhere. You can still visit your house in person at its location, but you don't have to be there to enjoy what it offers.
Materials
Construction requires specific materials to build components. These materials are crafted through various gathering skills or obtained from the market. Higher-tier materials are needed for more advanced components. Each material takes a specific amount of time to create and grants construction experience along with strength stats.

INFO
- Limestone is acquired through Mining, not the Construction skill.
- Construction has a heavy emphasis on wood. Metal is not used in the construction process other than for iron fittings.
- Material gathering can only be performed when you have access to a house. So you must first build your house foundations, or be a guest in another house.
- You can only gather materials at the same location as the house unless the house has a Remote Conduit.

Tips
Your house is an investment. Build components that match how you actually play. If you spend all your time hunting, look for components that boost hunting rewards or efficiency. If you prefer crafting, choose components that improve crafting speeds or material generation.
Early on, focus on components that give broad benefits. As you level up and unlock more options, you can specialize.
Don't ignore maintenance. It's tempting to just keep building and forget about your old components, but they'll degrade and stop working if you don't fix them.
Think carefully about which slots you fill. You have limited space, so every component should be something you actually use. A component that gives a tiny bonus to a skill you never use is just wasting a slot.
Finally, remember that Construction level unlocks better components. Keep leveling your Construction skill. The higher you go, the more powerful the upgrades available to you become, and the faster you can build them.
