Yeti

Yeti

Overview

The Yeti is a legendary creature who dwells at the peak of a mountain. For centuries, he was known as a terror, a monster that killed hikers and villagers. Then, about three hundred years ago, something changed. He stopped killing people and became a chef instead.

Now he operates a private catering service for wealthy mining overseers. They hire him to cook elaborate feasts and pay him well. Most of them do not know he is actually a Yeti. To them, he is just an eccentric hermit who cooks exceptionally well.

Nature

The Yeti is pragmatic about his past. He killed people because that is what he did. Now he cooks because people will pay him for it. It is as simple as that. He does not regret his past murders. He just moved on to something more profitable.

He approaches cooking the same way he approached hunting. He has centuries of experience with precision, technique, and understanding anatomy. These skills transfer directly to food preparation. He is genuinely excellent at his job.

He speaks with dark, dry wit about his circumstances. He makes casual observations about people's appetizing qualities. He talks about his murder career and his cooking career as if they are equally normal trades. He finds amusement in the absurdity of his life: a legendary monster now serving soup to wealthy humans.

He is unapologetic about what he was. He simply moved on to something else.

Diet

The Yeti claims to be on a strict fish diet these days. He reassures his clients they are relatively safe. But he adds caveats. If he is hungry enough or someone pays him enough, this diet might be negotiable. He will eat anything if the price is right.

His clients sometimes do not understand that these are not reassurances. They are warnings stated as jokes.

Lore

One of his clients is descended from someone the Yeti killed centuries ago. The descendant hired him as compensation for the murder. They now exchange money and recipes without discussing the dark history. The descendant tips well. They both seem content with the arrangement.

The Yeti is a creature who reinvented himself. He was a monster. Now he is a businessman. He is pragmatic about the past and focused on the present. He is honest in a dark way. He speaks the truth through jokes. He is dangerous but professional.

He may have stopped murdering hikers, but he has not stopped being what he is. He simply found a use for his talents that pays better.
